Look, I wish I could shout it from the rooftops—YOU ARE NOT ALONE! But I get it: when anxiety or depression creeps in, it feels like you are. Trust me, you’re not. And that’s the problem—nobody talks about it enough. I get it, people don’t want to hear about all the bad shit in your life. But hear me out … what if more people started to share the real and authentic side of things?
We all want to look like we’ve got it together. Scroll through Instagram or TikTok and you’ll see:
• Smiling faces, dreamy vacations, lakes homes.
• The new cars, the expensive dinners, the perfect home with the spotless kitchen.
• Anniversary posts that say, “I don’t know where I’d be without you.”
But you *probably* won’t see:
• I skipped work today because I couldn’t get out of bed.
• We fight more than we get along, and I don’t know if this relationship is working.
• I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, and I feel like I’m drowning.
• The stack of bills on the counter I have, that honestly – sometimes I think where the fuck is this money supposed to come from?
When you start sharing the hard stuff, it’s like magic—others open up too. And suddenly, you realize you’re not as alone as you thought. Real talk breaks down stigma, builds better friendships and connection, and might even save lives. I truly believe that by sharing our bullshit “this is fucking hard!”, as well as the good stuff, it will let more people be real.
So I’m here to challenge you:
Say something real today. Post the messy stuff. Or text a friend and tell them what’s really going on. Vulnerability is how we heal.
